Arriving in California in 1849, he located opposite the upper end of Randall's Island, in what is now Yolo County. He lives eighteen miles from Sacramento City, in Yolo County, though possessed of valuable interests in Sacramento County. Mr. Greene owns one of the oldest amid most valuable fruit ranches on the river. It is situated opposite the upper end of Randall's Island, embraces one hundred and fourteen acres and contains ten thousand choice trees. This ranch is presided over by his son, Mr. George Greene. In Sacramento County, Mr. J. B. Greene owns a seven hundred and fifty-acre dairy ranch, stocked with three hundred and fifty head of cattle, one hundred of which are dairy cows. Since his arrival in California he has followed stock-raising, farming and fruit-growing; has held the office of Levee Commissioner and was a member of the First Board of Supervisors of Yolo County. The value of Mr. Greene's property is not far from $50,000. In 1847 was married to Miss Caroline P. Beale, of New Hampshire. They have had four boys; two living.
