Page 263 Lives on Grand Island, seven miles below Courtland, his Post Office; was born in Rockport, Indiana, in 1825; moved from there to Kentucky, and lived there until the Mexican War; he served during that war, and at its close returned to Kentucky. He came to California across the Plains in 1850, and lived a few years in El Dorado County; he then came to this county; owns ninety-three acres of land. While in Kentucky Mr. Hall was engaged in the tannery business; of late years he has followed farming. He was married in 1864 to Miss E. D. Hawkins, a native of Vermont; they have had born to them nine children, six of whom are living, one son and five daughters.
