Page 284. resides in Sacramento City. He was born in Greene County, New York, in 1831, and went to San Francisco in 1852. He embarked in shipbuilding until 1855, and then went to the mines of Nevada County. In 1861 he returned to San Francisco, and in 1865, on account of bad health, he traveled through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and the British possessions. In 1867 he again went to San Francisco and entered the coal business, and in 1868 came to Sacramento, and has since been engaged as a carpenter and builder. He owns property on Twelfth street between O and P streets, and on Seventeenth between P and Q streets. In 1868 he married Miss L. E. Austin, a native of Catskill, New York. They had one child, who died in 1870, and the mother died in 1871. In 1875 he married Miss Mattie C. Folger, a native of Indiana. They have one little daughter.
