This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm Was born in St. Lawrence county, New York, on the 4th of March, 1838. He left the place of his nativity, coming to this State via the overland route, and first settled in Placervile, El Dorado county, where he engaged in mining. He remained in this State for a period of five years, then returned East, coming again to California after two years. He at once proceeded to the mines, where he remained two years; then he became proprietor of a packing train over the mountains to Carson valley, thence to Frazier river and Cariboo. In 1862 he engaged in mining in Cariboo, remaining two summers, then returned to California and Marin county, where he has since resided. On May 17, 1877, he established his business in Marshalls, where he is now one of the leading merchants.
