M. Irish, an old sailor who visited San Francisco Bay in 1820, when only the old Mission Dolores marked where the metropolis now stands. Jno. P. was a member of the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth General Assemblies of Iowa and also of the extra session which formed and adopted the present code of that State; was a Regent of the State University of Iowa; and was a Trustee of the Soldiers� Orphans� Home of that State. Was candidate for Congress in 1868 and 1872, and for Governor in 1877. Came to California in April, 1882, and removed his family to Oakland in September of that year.
