Alameda County Biographies AARON JACOBS Transcribed by Kathy Sedler This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm This well-known and popular merchant tailor of Oakland is a native of Prussia, Germany, born May 3, 1852. At the early age of ten years he began to learn the tailor�s trade with his father, where he remained for five years. He then proceeded to Dresden, and entered a cutting academy, from whence he graduated in the art of cutting in one year. In May, 1866, he sailed from Hamburg for American, arriving in San Francisco in June of the same year, where he found employment at his trade until 1870, when he removed to Ukiah, Mendocino County, where he engaged in business for himself for five years. He then came to Oakland and opened a similar establishment on Broadway until 1878, when he sold out stock, and entered the employ of J. Tobin, of San Francisco, until March 1, 1882, when he, in partnership with his brother, H. Jacobs, opened their present merchant-tailor store at No. 1062 Broadway, and are recognized as among the leading men in that line of business in the city of Oakland.
