Page 273. lives fifteen miles from Sacramento and half-a-mile from Elk Grove, his Post Office; was born in Pennsylvania in 1829, and lived there until 1852 engaged in farming and carriage making; in that year he came to California by way of the Isthmus, and lived about a year in Sacramento; he taught school the Summer of 1853 at Diamond Springs, El Dorado County; in the Spring of 1854 he settled near Elk Grove, on his present location, where he has been farming and fruit raising; he also manufactures wines, raisins and vinegar; owns one hundred and forty acres of land, worth, with improvements, about $3,500.
