He began the ship-carpenter�s trade at the age of sixteen, and continued it till he was twenty-two years old. He then sailed as ship�s carpenter on German and American vessels till 1863. In that year he landed in San Francisco, and for one year longer he sailed up and down the coast, and on the Sacramento river. In 1864, he came to Mendocino City and found employment in the redwoods, where he worked till 1871. In that year, he opened his sample and billiard room at Caspar, where he has since continued. Mr. King married August 16, 1874, Mrs. Alice Christinson, whose maiden name was Alice Larbern. She was born in Germany, August 6, 1847, and by her first marriage, she has one child, Freddie, born October 4, 1867. There are no children by her marriage to Mr. King.
