Page 274. lives at Elk Grove, his Post Office, fifteen miles from Sacramento; was born in Pennsylvania in 1842, where he remained until 1862, when he joined the army and remained in the service until 1863. He then returned to Pennsylvania and completed the learning of the tinsmith's trade. In 1866 he went to Woodbury, New Jersey, and remained until 1876, engaged in tin and stove business. He then came to Sacramento, California, engaged in the same business, which he now carries on at Elk Grove. His land, improvements and merchandise are worth about $1500. He married Celia A. Johnson in 1865, a native of New Jersey. They have had two children---one daughter, Ida May, born 1872, now living.
