	Lives thirty miles from Sacramento, just opposite Walnut Grove, 
which is his Post Office; was born in England in 1825, and lived there until 
1848; he went to Australia in that year, and followed the sea until 1851; he 
came to San Francisco in 1852 and remained until 1853, when he settled in this 
county, and has been engaged in boating and farming. Mr. Madge was on a 
war-ship, settling the boundary question; was in San Francisco as early as 1846; 
he then went home, England, and to Australia, as mentioned above. He was married 
in 1871 to Miss Elenor Hansen, a native of Denmark.
