Los Angeles County, CA, Biographies This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm CHARLES DEWEY MANNING, Lamanda Park Born in Province of Ontario, Canada, Oct. 24, 1847, parents moving to Rockton, Ill., when he was six months old. Educated in public schools; when sixteen enlisted in Ninth Illinois Cav. and served through the Civil War; then attended school two years; in the saddlery business for some time with his father; in 1882 located at Rock Rapids, Ia., and continued in same line with a brother; Township Assessor, 1885-6, and Treasurer of Lyon Co., 1889-93. Settled near Lamanda Park in 1894 and engaged in fruit growing, in which he has been successful. Has served as Road Superintendent of First Supervisorial District for seven years and in 1906 was elected Supervisor; in that capacity represents the largest producer from the soil of any district in the county and larger in territory than any except the fifth.
