A well known citizen of Lodi, where he has resided since 1911, Edward G. McCausland is an enterprising agriculturist and business man. He was born in Lexington, Mo., April 20, 1893, a son of Ernest M. and Jennie (Goode) McCausland. The father was a merchant for many years in Lexington; later he became a member of the working force of the New York Life Insurance Company. Two sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCausland. Edward G., of this sketch, and Harold. The family left Missouri for California in 1911 and settled in Lodi, where the father passed away at the age of sixty years, while the mother is still living and resides in Lodi. Edward G. McCausland had the advantage of a good education, first in St. Joseph's grammar school, then was graduated from the Stockton High School and in 1916 was graduated from Stanford University, where he took a course in journalism. Following his graduation from Stanford University he entered the employ of the New York Life Insurance Company and remained with that company until his country called him. He entered the service in November, 1917, and was sent to Camp Lewis in the 166th Depot Brigade and was a member of the third officers' training camp at Camp Lewis; later he was transferred to the 316th Military Police of the 91st Division and was sent overseas, where he took part in four major engagements, namely, St. Mihiel, Argonne, Lyse-Scheldt and the attack on Audenarde. After the war he was stationed at La Ferte-Bernard, the embarkation area of France. In 1919 he returned to the United States and the same year was honorably discharged from the service at the Presidio with the rank of corporal. Upon his return to Lodi he engaged in the real estate business and is also the owner of 120 acres of land in Madera County about fourteen miles south of Merced on the Merced-Los Banos Highway; he also owns forty acres on Harney Lane in the vicinity of Lodi. He is a Democrat in politics and a member of the American Legion of Lodi; and is a member of the Christian church in Lodi.
