B. F. McMURRY

        Among the favorably known and representative business men of Tulare 
stands B. F. McMurry, who has since becoming identified with this community 
gained an enviable position in the. confidence and esteem of the people. He is 
proprietor of the leading jewelry store in Tulare, and is a native of the Lone 
Star state, born in Bonham, March 19, 1885. He is the son of William J. and 
Francis Lou (Finger) McMurry. His father was for many years prominently engaged 
in grain farming and stock raising in Texas, but is now a resident of 
California.
        B. F. McMurry took the public school course, graduating from high 
school, and then entered Trinity University, at Waxahachie, Texas, but remained 
there only two years. In 1904 he came to California and locating in Merced, 
served an apprenticeship at the watchmaking and jewelers trade. Subsequently he 
went to Hanford, where he was employed in a jewelry store until 1910, when he 
came to Tulare and bought a jewelry store. In this enterprise he has been 
successful to a gratifying degree and is now in command of the largest trade in 
this locality. He carries a large and well selected stock of watches, jewelry 
and music and customers entering his store are sure of courteous and painstaking 
attention. Mr. McMurry has identified himself with local public affairs and is 
an earnest supporter of every local movement or enterprise having for its object 
the betterment of the public welfare. He possesses to a marked degree those 
qualities which attract men and he enjoys a large circle of warm and loyal 
friends.
        Mr. McMurry was married on September 11, 1907, to Miss Edna E. Crowder, 
of Merced, California, and they have a son, Richard. Mrs. McMurry is an active 
member of the Women's club of Tulare and is a popular member of the social 
circles in which she moves. Mr. McMurry is a member of the Benevolent Protective 
Order of Elks, the Tulare Rotary Club, and the Tulare Board of Trade, of which 
he was formerly a director and member of the executive board and is now the 
president. He is a republican in politics. He is at present serving as clerk of 
the board of trustees of the Tulare Union high school.
