Educated in Dublin public schools and under private instructors in mathematics and navigation. Followed a sea-faring life from 1870 to 1875. Came to Los Angeles in February, 1877, and since 1878 has been connected with the water supply companies of the city. Appointed Chief Engineer water department Los Angeles 1902 and still holds position; also is Chief Engineer and one of the leading promoters of the Owens River Aqueduct project. Mem. American Socy. Civil Engineers, Engineers and Architects Assn. Southern California, and California and Celtic clubs. Married, 1890, Lillie Ferguson; five children.
