When about sixteen years of age, he moved to Suffield, Hartford county, Connecticut, in which place he was educated. He afterwards resided for four years in Cedar (Tipton) and Jones counties, Iowa, when he started across the plains for California with teams and arrived in 1850 at Nevada City, where he stopped and commenced mining on Deer creek. He left the mining districts in the Fall of 1853, and came to his present farm, where he now resides and owns one hundred and eight-five acres.
