Post Office, Courtland; lives four miles from that place, and twenty-five miles from Sacramento; was born in Pennsylvania, in 1815; removed to Ohio, with parents, in 1823; moved to Indiana in 1825, and lived there until 1828, when he went to Illinois, and remained there until 1849; in that year he came to California, but stopped only a short time, and then returned East; he came back to this State in 1851, and settled on the Sacramento River in 1856; is now engaged in farming, vegetable and fruit-raising; owns six hundred and fifty acres, worth with improvements, about $34,000. He was married, in 1861, to Miss Eliza Kelley, a native of New York, who has borne him a son and a daughter, both of whom are dead.
