Was born in Williamson County, Illinois, on April 22, 1856.  He was reared in 
his native county and at Carbondale.  He left the latter place for this State, 
arriving on the 27th of March, 1875, and settled in this county.  He followed 
mining for a period of six years, when he bought an interest in the principal 
livery stable at Sonora and retains it to the present writing.
