William Pullen

	Born in Kennebec county, Maine, March 18, 1841, where he 
resided, being engaged in lumbering and farming, until the fall of 1860, when he 
went to Virginia, where he was engaged in getting out ship timber until April, 
1861. when the State seceded from the Union Mr. Pullen, in company with a few 
others, made their escape in small boats and were picked up by a steamer. He 
returned to Maine, where he remained until June, when he sailed, via Panama, for 
California, arriving at San Francisco July 13, 1861. He came at once to this 
county and engaged in lumbering on the Albion river, where he remained until 
January, 1863, when he moved to Round valley, where he has since been engaged in 
farming and is an active member in several societies. Married, July 8, 1875, 
Miss Laura C. Long, a native of Illinois, and one of the first families of 
McHenry county. They have one child, Cora L.
