              Was born at the Presidio of San Francisco, June 
16, 1837, and is the son of Juan and Hilaria Sanchez Read.  He was educated in 
the Mission Dolores school.  In 1859 he came to the Rancho Corte Madera del 
Presidio and has since resided upon it.  He is married to Miss Carlotta Suarres, 
a native of Mazatta, Mexico.  They have two children�John P. and Clotilda.
