Don Manuel Requena
 
Don Manuel Requena was a native of Yucatan.  He came to Los Angeles many years 
ago, and, being a well-educated man, he became a very influential and useful 
citizen.  He lived on the east side of Los Angeles street and north of the 
street opened through his garden and named after him.  He held many official 
positions here in early times, including the office of alcalde.  He caused a 
census to be taken in 1836.  He died in June 1876.
