Page 266. Lives eighteen miles from Sacramento City and seven miles from Elk Grove his Post Office. Was born in England in 1826, and emigrated to Wisconsin in 1845, where he was engaged in mining. In 1849 came across the plains with the Rough and Ready Company, and stopped at Rough and Ready, Nevada County, mining. In 1850 he returned to Wisconsin, via Panama, but came back to this State after staying there three months. He again went to Wisconsin in 1851, and remained until 1853, purchasing goods for California. He then came to this State, and engaged in farming. In 1869 he went East by rail with the California Pioneers. He was married in 1852 to a Wisconsin lady, and they have three sons and five daughters. He owns 2000 acres of land, valued at $30,000.
