Sacramento County Biographies PEYTON RUSSELL Transcribed by: Nancy Pratt Melton This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP Page 250 Post Office, Brighton; lives six and a half miles east of Sacramento; was born in Ohio in 1818; moved to Indiana in 1829, and lived there until 1839, when he removed to Illinois and remained there until 1844, engaged in farming; in that year he went to Georgia and stopped there until 1846, engaged in cutting wood and cane; from there he moved to South Carolina, and was farming there until 1850, when he removed to Florida, and followed farming until 1852; he then came to Illinois, but shortly afterwards went down to Louisiana, and from there to Texas, and then to New Orleans; he came to California and settled in this county in 1853, and has since been engaged principally in farming; owns two hundred and seventy-four acres, worth, with improvements, about $11,400.
