Page 275. of the firm of Johnson & Sugden, lives at Florin his Post Office ten miles from Sacramento; he was born in Halifax, in 1832, and remained there until 1839; then went to sea, and from that early period of his life was in various capacities on the ocean until 1852. He came to California, leaving New York as master of the vessel Marion Page, which was loaded with war supplies for the insurgents who were opposed to the government William Walker was endeavoring to establish in Nicaragua. The vessel's name was changed to Teresa, and was afterward in the service of the famous filibuster. Mr. Sugden has resided in California ever since; twelve years of the time was engaged in mining at various places. In 1875 engaged in present business of general merchandising.
