Sacramento County Biographies JOHN THOMAS Transcribed by: Nancy Pratt Melton This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP Page 251 Farmer; lives nine miles from Sacramento, and four miles from Brighton, on the Valley road; owns one hundred and fifty-three acres of laud, valued at $15,000; born at sea, Boston Harbor, in 1825; parents moved to New York, and traveled for some years; went to Nevada in 1844; crossed the plains; remained there, engaged in farming, until 1850; then came to Sacramento County, California; he has been engaged in farming on the place where he now resides since 1853. When Mr. Thomas started from Salt Lake for California, he had three hundred pounds of flour; on account of the hunger of the women and children on the way, he gave his flour all away, and for ten days was without bread. He married Miss M. J. Disbrough, in 1853; she was born in New Jersey; they have one daughter; Post Office, Routier. A view of Mr. Thomas' place is given on another page.
