	lives eighteen miles from Sacramento and four and a half miles 
from Franklin. He owns eighty acres of land; was born in Scotland in 1839; in 
1872 he emigrated to the United States, and lived about two years in 
Massachusetts, working at his trade carpentering; he came to California in 1874 
and settled in this county, where he is now engaged in farming and carpentering. 
He was married in 1863 to Mary McLaren, also a native of Scotland, by whom he 
has had nine children three sons and three daughters are still living. His land 
and improvements are worth about $1500. Post Office, Franklin.
