	Post Office, Antelope; lives three miles from that town, and 
thirteen miles from Sacramento; was born in Germany, in 1825; emigrated to the 
United States, when about twenty-five years of age, and came to California 
shortly afterwards, or about the year 1850. She was married to Peter Van 
Maren---her maiden name being Hurtzig by whom she has six children three boys, 
and three girls. Her husband died in 1876, aged fifty-four years; since his 
death, her eldest son, Philip, has managed the farm. She owns seven hundred and 
eighty-seven acres of land, worth, with improvements, about $23,000.
