	Post Office, Walnut Grove; lives thirty miles down the river 
from Sacramento; was born in New York, in 1832; removed to Illinois in 1837, and 
lived there until 1853; he then came to California, and engaged in mining, in El 
Dorado County, until 1855; he settled in this county in that year, and engaged 
in farming; he owns one hundred and eighty-seven acres of land, worth about 
fifty dollars per acre. He was married, in 1857, to Rebecca Barrett, a native of 
Ohio; they have three children living two sons and a daughter.
