He was born in Ohio in 1831; from 1850 to 1857 he was engaged in steamboating on Lake Erie, when he came to California by the Isthmus route, and settled at his present location. In May, 1858, he married Miss Abby M. Mitchell, a native of Massachusetts; they have one son. A view of his place appears in this work.
