Was born in Kongsburg, Norway, December 24,1852, and is the son of Hans Hansen and Karena Christiansen. He resided at his birthplace until he was nineteen years of age, when he immigrated to America, and settled in Batavia, Illinois. In his native country he served an apprenticeship to the tailor's trade under his father; and on his arrival in Batavia he immediately began work at his trade, and followed it for nine months. He then went to Chicago, where he found employment for a short time. Thence he went to Aurora, Illinois, where he worked for one year. Then he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he remained until he came to California, in 1873. He first located in San Francisco, where he followed his trade until 1878, when he, with his present partner, Mr. Olsen, came to Napa City, and began their present business of merchant tailoring, in connection with which they carry a complete line of gentlemen's furnishing goods. He was married August 7,1878, to Miss Emma Buttoff, who was born in Mendocino County, California, in the year 1859.
