PHILLIPS, C. W. Was born in Iowa, October 12, 1S50. When fourteen years of age he, with parents, 
crossed the plains to California, and arrived in Contra Costa County in October, 1864. Here they 
engaged in farming which business they prosecuted until 1871, when they came to Lake County and 
settled on a farm near Pearson Springs. His father is at present residing at the toll-house on the road 
leading from Lakeport to Middletown, which road he has leased. The subject of this sketch is 
conducting the farm above mentioned. He was married, September 16, 1878, to Miss Ettie Smith, a 
native of California.
