Was born in Chittenden county, Vermont, November 18, 1833, where he learned the carpenter's trade and resided until 1854, when he emigrated to California. He worked at his trade in San Francisco until 1856, when he went to Oroville, Butte county, remaining until 1862, when he went to Nevada, and after following his trade for three years, he built a quartz mill, which he run until 1870, when he came to this county and settled on his present place, consisting of one hundred and ten acres, located on Dry creek, about two miles from Healdsburg. He married Miss Catherine Fetter, January 12, 1866, a native of Ohio. Their children are: Laura J., born June 13, 1862; Katie M., born February 10, 1865; Daniel H., born November 13, 1866, died June 3, 1877; James M., born November 17, 1868; Fannie M., born March 19, 1870; Clara L., born June 17, 1872; Charles J., born April 24, 1873; Royal T., born February 22, 1876.
