A native of Hamburg, Erie county, New York; born April 12, 1843. Here he resided until 1853, when he went to Chatauqua county, New York; in June, 1863, he emigrated to California, landing at San Francisco, July 22d. He soon became a resident of San Joaquin county, where he worked for a brother for five years, after which he proceeded to Stanislaus county, bought a six hundred and forty acre tract of land, and engaged in farming, livery and hotel business. In 1877 he came to this county and engaged in the livery and feed business at Santa Rosa, still retaining his land in Stanislaus county. Mr. Ross married, on September 12, 1869, Miss Martha A.
