Native of New York City, born August 23, 1832, and when fourteen years of age, in 1846, he began the apprenticeship to the baker's trade, which he followed in that city till 1854. On February 4th of that year he sailed on board the "Northern Light" to Nicaragua, and from there took passage on the ship "Cortes," and arrived in San Francisco March 4th. He soon found employment at his trade in San Francisco, and remained there until the Spring of 1859, when he came to Sonoma and embarked in the bakery trade, which he prosecuted until January 1878, when he sold his business, since which time he has been engaged in insurance matters. On November 13, 1878, he was appointed Notary Public, and on September 3,1879, was elected Supervisor from the first district, which includes Sonoma and Vallejo townships.
