Interments are original pioneer residents of the local area or their descendants with the exception of burials required under Public Guardian law and their descendents. Cemetery is accessible between dawn and dusk. There are marked as well as unmarked graves. To locate the cemetery travel East on Highway 70 pass the city of Oroville about 12 miles. Take the Cherokee Road turn to the right. Go 2 miles (you will go through the site for the historical town of Cherokee) and on the right will be the driveway to the cemetery. The road is narrow but paved. There are no services at the old Cherokee site or the cemetery so take a comfort break before you leave Oroville. Water is available but only one vapor light at the gate for night security. GPS coordinates are N 39 38.491 and W 121 31.890 at an elevation of 1400 ft. The oldest surviving tombstone is dated 1862. The older section of the cemetery has been vandalized numerous times including head stones stolen. Information in the transcription in (parenthesis and italics) in the notes section are added by the transcriber. Information in (parenthesis) in the name and dates sections is information provided by the cemetery records. All other information is taken directly from the tombstones.
