All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Evergreen Cemetery, located on Evergreen Road, Santa Cruz, Calif., just on the west side of West Harvey Park. The photo (1) is of the GAR Plot, aka Plot of "The Grand Army of the Republic", taken just after renovation was completed days before its re-dedication on Memorial Day 2004. Two photos, one of Senator Bruce McPherson at the podium (2) on 2004 Memorial Day commemorating the new renovation of the site, the other photo is bringing forth the dedication flowers (3) from Ferrari Flowers, American Legion & SUVCW Lincoln 10 member Wayne Thalls assists Senator McPherson with the flowers. The last photo (4) was the exiting parade/procession at the GAR plot/Evergreen Cemetery on Memorial Day 2009 by the American Civil War Associations 2nd Wisconsin Company H (Iron brigade), also the ACWA's 4th Virginia Confederates, SUVCW bugler: D. Thompson, followed by the Bushmill Irish Pipers of San Francisco. Also: Front cover of the Program of the 2004 Memorial Day observance ceremonies at Evergreen Cemetery in Santa Cruz, CA on May 31, 2004. **************** On May 31st, 2004 on Memorial Day, the Sons of the Confederacy were invited to conduct a Rebel ceremony for 1st Sergeant James Harris (see grave marker photo) of the Texas Frontier District, Confederate States of America who was born in 1846 and died in 1890 in Santa Cruz and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War's Camp Abraham Lincoln #10 of Santa Cruz and the American Civil War Associations 2nd Wisconsin were present to assist in the Color Guard in the entry (photo 5) and exit procession (photo 6) as well as the fire volley (photo 7) during the Memorial Day Ceremony, afterwards there was the Headstone unveiling ceremony conducted by the Sons of the Confederacy, there was a two man fire volley salute conducted by the CSA re-enactors as well as a Napoleon Confederate cannon blast to end the event. Each year, a Memorial Day Ceremony is conducted at Evergreen Cemetery's GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) plot. CSA James Harris is buried north of the plot.
