BONNEY: John A. Bonney, Civil War Veteran of Monterey County. 1st Nevada Cavalry, Company E. Union Army. He was born in 1831 in Maine and died 10/4/1914 in his home in Pacific Grove, California. Wife was Anne Elizabeth Bonney. He was a Master Mason from a lodge in Stockton, CA. and a member of the Lucius Fairchild GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Post #179. He is buried in the old section of El Carmelo Cemetery (photo) of Pacific Grove, CA.

BONNEY JOHN A (-1914) Pacific Grove (Pacific Grove Daily Review October 7, 1914) Funeral of J.A. Bonney The funeral of the late J.A. Bonney was held on Tuesday afternoon from the residence on the corner of Twelfth and High streets, under the auspices of Pacific Grove Free and Accepted Masons. Mr. Bonney having been for many years an esteemed member of that order. The Episcopal service was conducted by Rev. E.G. Williams rector of St. Marys by the Sea. There was a wealth of floral offerings to attest the esteem of friends and relatives. Interment was in the El Carmelo Cemetery. The pall bearers were T. W. Cook, D. Hatfield, A.L. Yates, C.B. Luck, I F. Long and Richard Chives.
