Civil War Veterans


CORN: James Washington Corn, Civil War Veteran of Monterey County. 1st California Cavalry Company L. 

He was born in Buncombe County, NC on April 30, 1824. He died at his son-in-law’s home in Soledad on February 11, 1898. He was a member of the James Blair Steedman GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Post #56 based out of Salinas, California. He was of the “California Column” in the 1st California Cavalry in Company L as a Private. James W. Corn is buried in the main GAR Plot in the second row of headstones in the Old Section of the IOOF Cemetery in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Salinas, California.
