PVT: JOHN HANDLEY, of the 8th California Infantry, Company C, of the California Column, Civil War Veteran of Monterey County. John Handley, not much is known about this man, what is known is he was a native of England. He enlisted out of San Francisco into the 8th California Infantry, in company C on January 21, 1865 and mustered out at Fort Point, San Francisco. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, but of what Post number is unknown at this time. He died on December 28th, 1898 according to cemetery records, he buried in the GAR PLOT of the IOOF “Garden of Memories Memorial Park” in Salinas. No newspaper obituary has been found at this time.
