Civil War Veterans
PVT: PERRY GATES NORTHUP of the 50th Wisconsin Infantry of Company “G”, Civil War Veteran of Monterey County.
Perry Gates Northup was born on July 18th, 1832 in Hamburg, New York. On January 27th, 1859 he married Miriam Zeviah Kinne in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. During the Civil War, Perry G. Northup enlisted into the 50th Wisconsin Infantry of Company G on February 22, 1865 and mustered out on June 14, 1866. In 1892 he and Miriam moved to Monterey, Ca. they later had eight children. Perry G. Northup died August 6, 1919 at his home on 426 Archer Street in New Monterey. He was a member of the Lucius Fairchild GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Post # 179 based out of Pacific Grove, CA. Perry G. Northup is buried at El Encinal Cemetery in Monterey, California.

Veteran Passes Away
Perry Northrup passed away at his home in new Monterey today after an illness of some weeks. He leaves several sons, residents of the Carmel Valley. Arrangements for the funeral have not been made.
Perry Gates Northrup, a Civil War veteran, died at his home at 426 Archer street, new Monterey, about 9 o’clock yesterday morning. Mr. Northrup was born in New York July 18th, 1832, and was aged 87 years and 26 days. He was a retired farmer and came to California and Monterey 27 years and 9 months ago and had resided here ever since. The funeral will be held at his late residence tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Frank Kline Baker, D.D., pastor of the Pacific Grove Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be made in Monterey cemetery.
