HAMILTON, JAMES (1838-1897) IOOF (Salinas Weekly Journal May 15, 1897) A Veterans Death James Hamilton, a veteran of the late war, died yesterday at the county hospital. He was an inmate of the Veteran’s Home at Santa Monica but was away on furlough. He was during the war a member of Co. D. Ninth Connecticut Volunteers. The deceased was a native of Ireland, aged 59 years. His funeral will be in charge of D.J. King, Superintendent of Interment of Veterans, and will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday from the undertaking parlors of W.M. Vanderhurst. Services will be conducted by Rev. J.W. Bryant. Interment I.O.O.F. cemetery.
