Old Soldier passes
  D.L. Knowles, a retired Civil War veteran passed away at his home on the corner of 
Tenth and Pine avenue in Pacific Grove at about three o’clock this morning after a 
short illness.  Mr. Knowles had lived a quiet life here for the past few years and was 
well spoken of by those who knew him.  the funeral will be held on Monday afternoon, 
the services being conducted by Lucius Fairchild Post of the G.A.R.
