He had been failing for the past couple of weeks and last night passed away in the presence of those near and dear to him. James Pettitt was a native of Tennessee and was aged 76 years, 2 months and 2 days. He was a Union veteran and served honorably through the Civil War. He came to California in 1875, accompanied by his family and has been a resident of this county for 25 years. He was a man of sterling worth, a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and a local citizen. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Thomas Pettitt of Soledad, David Pettitt of San Jose, William Pettitt of King City and one daughter Mrs. I.G. Giacomazzi of Greenfield The funeral will be held in Soledad, at the mortuary chapel of Thomas Pettitt, at 1 p.m. Thursday
