(Paso Robles Star February 6, 1924) Charles Royse Pioneer Called Charles Royse, for half a century a resident of the Parkfield section, died last evening at the advanced age of 81 years. Some weeks ago Royse fell on a hot stove and suffered burns which were a contributed cause to his death. He was said too have been a brother of John Bunny, who some ten years ago was famous as a movie comedy star after building a name for himself as a comedian on the stage. Royse was a native of Missouri. When a young lad he became a scout under the famous Kit Carson and later served in the Civil war. He was exceptionally capable as a horseman and first entered California as a young man driving a team in a circus. When the circus landed in Santa Cruz Royse quit the show and became a stage driver. About half a century ago he located in the Parkfield section where he has resided continuously. He was one of the best known men in this entire section. He is survived by one son Fred, who is commissioner of public safety at Santa Cruz. Funeral services will be held at Parkfield tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Rev. C. L. Thackeray of this city officiating. (Salinas Daily Index February 8, 1924) Parkfield Notes Parkfield Dist., Feb. 7- C.H. Royce an old time resident of Parkfield passed away at his home at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Sometime ago Mr. Royce was badly burned. Although the burns were healing as well as could be expected the suffering was more than one of his advanced age and condition could stand. his son F.C. Royce and two grandsons came down from Santa Cruz. Interment was at the Todd Cemetery Thursday afternoon. Rev. C.F. Thackeray conducted the services. Mr. Royce leaves one son, T.C. Royce and two grandsons in Santa Cruz. (Salinas Daily Index February 11, 1924) Rev. L Thackeray officiated at the burial service in honor of Charles H Royce, at Christ Church Thursday. Mr. Royce was an old soldier of the Civil war. John Bunny, the noted comedian who died some years ago, was his brother. A number of friends came from neighboring towns to show their respect for the departed. Among them were his daughter in law Mrs. Fred Royce and her sister, Mrs. Anna Farnham of Santa Cruz, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Byles, Mr. and Mrs. Sloss King of Coalinga and George Millman of San Miguel
