VAN HORN PASSES AWAY AT CARMEL Decedent Resided Nearly Forty Years in the Santa Clara Valley Was Suffering at Time of Death From Injuries Received in Civil War. Benjamin F. Van Horn, a resident of Santa Clara County for nearly 40 years, died Wednesday in Carmel as the result of wounds received as a member of the Pennsylvania Volunteers in the Civil War. Decedent was 67 years of age and leaves eight children to mourn his loss. He was born in Clatsville, Pa., in March of 1843, and 20 years later, enlisted in the United States Army as a member of Company "H", Eleventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers (Infantry) and was captured by the rebels, spending nine months in Libby and Belle Island Prisons. He was honorably discharged from the army in 1865 and two years later led to the altar Miss Margaret Hensel of Yorkesville, Va. Decedent moved to California in 1868 and came to the Santa Clara Valley, living here until 1906, when he moved to Monterey and Carmel. He received injuries during his service in the Rebellion from which he suffered continuously until his death at Carmel Wednesday. LONGNECKER, William A. and Lemuel W. VAN HORN of Paso Robles, Benj. F. VAN HORN of Santa Clara and Ansel D. VAN HORN of Carmel, aged 66 years, 11 months and 8 days. Friends are invited to attend the funeral today (Friday), January 15, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. from the mortuary chapel of W.L. Woodrow, No. 117 South First street. Interment Oak Hill.
