YOUNG, JOHN (1838-1904) El Encinal (Salinas Daily Index Jan 16, 1904) Aged Painter Found Dead By the Railroad Track Near Seaside In Thursday evening’s Index the statement was made that the body of a man had been found that day by the railroad track at Seaside. At an inquest held yesterday it as found that the deceased was named John Young, that he was a painter by trade, a native of Ireland, and aged 65 years of age. He had been working on the new hotel at Monterey, but on Wednesday quit work and purchased a ticket for Salinas. He then proceeded to fill up on Monterey booze and while on his spree misplaced his ticket. Boarding the tram while in a drunken condition, he was put off at Seaside because he had neither money nor ticket. It is not known whether it was the train he was ejected from or one from anther direction which struck him with fatal results. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil war and was buried with G.A.R. honors this morning. (Monterey New Era 1/20/1904) Veteran’s Tragic Death John Young, a veteran of the civil war, aged 65 years, was found dead on the railroad track near Seaside last Thursday morning. Deceased, who had been in Monterey for about three weeks, left on Wednesday evening for Castroville, being at the time in an intoxicated condition. When the conductor demanded his ticket, Young refused to produce it, and was put off the train. The next morning his body was found beside the track.
