PVT: FRANK A. WERT of the 154th Indiana Infantry, Company G. 
Civil War Veteran of Monterey County.


Frank D. Wert was born November 30, 1846 in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the Civil War, on March 27, 1865 he enlisted into the 154th Indiana Infantry of Company G and was mustered out on August 4, 1865. His wife’s name was Mattie. They both lived in California for 47 years, 32 of them residing in the city of Pacific Grove, California. Frank D. Wert answered final muster at his home on 241 Pine Street, Pacific Grove on June 9, 1927 and his internment took place at the El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove, Ca.

Pacific Grove Daily Review June 14, 1927
G.A.R. Man Joins Ranks of the Dead
Mr. Frank A. Wert passes away in his home at 741 Pine Avenue in the Grove at 9:30 Saturday evening at the age of 80 years. Though Mr. Wert had been suffering from heart trouble for some time news of his death comes as a shock to his many friends here.


Mr. Wert was an esteemed member of Lucius Fairchild Post o. 179 Grand Army of the Republic. He is survived by his wife widow Mrs. Mattie Wert.


The deceased was born Nov 30, 1846 in Indianapolis Ind., and has lived in California 47 years, 32 of which were spent in Pacific Grove.


Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. McArthur, minister of the local church who is away on a vacation is expected to return to the Grove to take charge of the ceremonies on behalf of the church. Mrs. Emma D. Shearin will lead the Relief Corps services.


Services will be held at the grave in El Carmelo cemetery by the members of the Grand Army of the Republic.
