The following persons are all buried in Wheatland Cemetery. Source for each entry is the Appeal Democrat newspaper. Jun 1, 1948, page 3 WHEATLAND WOMAN, 77, SUCCUMBS Mrs. Frances C. Nightingale, 77, died this morning in her home, 312 Main St., Wheatland, after a residence of 30 years in that community. Mrs. Nightingale is survived by her husband Thomas, and four children, including Clyde J. and Lloyd C. Thomas [?] and Mrs. Marjorie C. Jones, all of Wheatland, and Mrs. Loretta Perry, Olivehurst. Widely known in the area, Mrs. Nightingale was born in Antioch, in March, 1871. Funeral services are being arranged and will be announced by Lipp & Sullivan. Jun 2, 1948, page 2 Funeral services for Mrs. Frances C. Nightingale, whose death yesterday in Wheatland removed a pioneer resident of the Yuba-Sutter area, will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Wheatland Christian church. Interment will follow in charge of Lipp & Sullivan at the Wheatland cemetery. Mar 22, 1950, page 5 THOMAS NIGHTINGALE OF WHEATLAND DIES Wheatland, March 22 - Thomas Nightingale resident of Wheatland for 52 years, died in a Marysville hospital Monday at the age of 81 years. He was born March 1, 1869, in Latrobe, El Dorado county, and was the youngest and last member of a family of ten children. His parents, James and Jane Nightingale crossed the plains to California in 1852, settling in Latrobe. In 1898 Nightingale married Frances A. Bryant. There are two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Jones and Mrs. Loretta Petty; two sons, Clyde and Lloyd, of Wheatland who survive. There are also four grandchildren. In 1918 the family moved to Wheatland, purchasing the home now owned by Chester Hamon, and engaged in the mercantile business. The business is now conducted by his son, Lloyd. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Christian church in Wheatland with interment in Wheatland cemetary [sic]. Jun 18, 1970, page 4 LLOYD C. NIGHTINGALE Private funeral services will be conducted Saturday for Lloyd Clarence Nightingale, 63, of Wheatland, who was found dead Tuesday in his grocery store. A native of Michigan Bar, Sacramento County, he had lived in the Wheatland area for 52 years. He operated the Nightingale Market. Nightingale made his home at 605 Third St. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a brother, Clyde J. Nightingale of Wheatland; and two sisters, Margery Jones of Wheatland and Loretty Petty of Camino, El Dorado County. Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Lipp and Sullivan. Rev. Aaron Brown, pastor of the Yuba City Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery. Jan 7, 1984, page A-6 CLYDE J. NIGHTINGALE Graveside services will be held Monday for long-time Wheatland resident Clyde James Nightingale, 84, who died Friday at Driftwood Convalescent Hospital. He was born April 4, 1899, in Michigan Bar, Sacramento County, and moved to the Yuba-Sutter area in 1918. He owned and operated the Nightingale Garage from 1937 to 1969. He was a member of the Wheatland Christian Church; the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department; Boy Scouts of America; and served two terms on the Wheatland City Council during the 1920s. Survivors include his wife, Grave [sic] Nightingale of Wheatland; three sons, Vernon L. Nightingale and Robert C. Nightingale, both of Wheatland, and Kenneth Nightingale of Yuba City; a sister, Loretta Petty of Pollack Pines; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Wheatland Cemetery with Rev. Aaron Brown, of the Gridley Christian Church, officiating. Visitations will be from 1 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Dec 22, 1989, page A-9 RUTH E. NIGHTINGALE Services are scheduled Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Hutchison & Carnes Colonial Chapel for Ruth Elena Nightingale, 82, of Wheatland, who died Dec. 20, 1989, at Rideout Hospital. A native of California, she had lived in the area for 60 years. She retired as a school teacher in 1985. She and her husband, the late Lloyd Nightingale, owned Nightingale Market in Wheatland. She was a member of Twin Cities Travel Club, Rio Oso Coffee Club, Eastern Star, Pioneer Hall in Wheatland, the Retired Teacher's Association, the Bear River Garden Club of Wheatland and the Republican Women. Survivors include two brothers; Fred Dunow of Sacramento and George Dunow of Auburn. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the chapel. The Rev. Steve Blount of the House of Prayer in Linda will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery. Memorials to the Pioneer Hall in Wheatland or to the American Cancer Society are suggested by the family. Apr 9, 1994, page A-2 VERNON L. NIGHTINGALE Graveside services are scheduled Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wheatland Cemetery for Vernon Lloyd Nightingale of Wheatland who died April 8, 1994, at The Fountains. He was 67. A native and lifelong resident of Wheatland, he owned Nightingale Garage for 25 years. He served as fire chief and assistant fire chief for the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years, was a mechanic for the Wheatland School District for 19 years, and was a mechanic for 25 years at Nightingale Garade [sic] with his father, the late Clyde Nightingale. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Claudine Nightingale of Wheatland; two daughters, Janice Farrar of Pateau, Okla., and Toni Lee Haymore of Wheatland; a son, Jay D. Nightingale of Kelseyville; his mother, Grace Nightingale of Wheatland; two brothers, Robert C. Nightingale of Wheatland and Kenneth J. Nightingale of Yuba City; and eight grandchildren. Bishop Albert Kempton will officiate at the services. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the Wheatland Fire Fighters Association, Wheatland, Calif., 95692, or the American Cancer Society, 1372 Longfellow Ave., Chico, Calif. 95926. Jun 16, 1998, page C-2 GRACE V. NIGHTINGALE Grace Viola Nightingale, 94, of Wheatland, died June 14, 1998, at her residence. Born in Yuba County, she was a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Robert Nightingale of Wheatland and Kenneth Nightingale of Yuba City; three sisters, Merle Hamon of Marysville, Alice Magonigal of Penn Valley and Mildred Gleason of Pleasant Valley; one brother, Vernon Vineyard of Lincoln; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Nightingale; and a son, Vernon Nightingale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Wheatland Fire Department, 313 Main St., Wheatland, Calif., 95962; or to the Wheatland Senior Citizen Group, 705 Third St., Wheatland, Calif., 95692 [95962]. Services: A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Wheatland Cemetery with the Rev. Denis O'Connor of Wheatland Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Aug 21, 2002, page C-2 ROBERT C. NIGHTINGALE Robert Clyde Nightingale, 73, of Wheatland, died Aug. 19, 2002, at Kindred Hospital in Folsom. Born in Wheatland, he was a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident. He retired from civil service as an equipment mechanic from Beale Air Force Base after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Wheatland Community Church of God, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4095 in Linda and was a patrolman for the Wheatland Police Department for several years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Velma Nightingale of Wheatland; two daughters, Roberta Nightingale of Wheatland and Regina Still of Marysville; a brother, Kenneth Nightingale of Yuba City; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Nightingale. Contributions can be made to the Wheatland Plumas-Brophy Fire Department in Wheatland. Services: A service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wheatland Community Church of God, with the Rev. John Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Wheatland Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and VFW Post 4095 of Linda. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
