Argelander memorial at age of 77 DOWNEY-A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday, April 14) at 10:30 a.m. at the Downey United Methodist Church, 10801 Downey Ave., for Frank Henry Argelander, a longtime Downey resident and pastor who died of heart failure April 3 while vacationing on the island resort of Pulau Lang Tengah off the coast of the Malay Peninsula, near the city of Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. He was 77, born April 14, 1923 in Kiukiang, China of missionary parents. He followed in his father's footsteps as a Methodist minister serving parishes in Indiana and Wisconsin as well as four years as a missionary in Indonesia and Melacca, Malaysia. Rev. Argelander also served United Methodist parishes in the Los Angeles area including Wilmington, Lynwood, Montebello, California Heights, Long Beach and Downey, before he retired in the mid-1980s. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Argelander; a former wife, Scotty Argelander, three children, Ronald and Jennifer Argenlander and Margo Berdanis (Bill); and numerous members of the extended Argelander family including siblings Ruth Butler, Edward Argelander and Alice Butler. Services were held Friday, April 6, at the Wesley Methodist Church in Malacca, Malaysia where he served as pastor from 1957-1960.
