The Downey Eagle October 26, 2001 Volume 9 Number 36 Community remembers Alice Fullerton Barnes DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Forest Lawn in Glendale for Alice Fullerton Barnes, a 53-year resident of Downey and an active member of the community for many years. She was born April 20, 1925 in Glendale, and died Oct. 13 in Whittier following a long illness. She grew up and was raised and educated in Glendale, graduating from Glendale High School in 1943. She attended USC and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She met her husband, Wesley Barnes, a longtime resident of Downey, at Yosemite National Park. They were married in 1948 and returned to live in Downey. She was a member of the PTA, Assistance League of Downey (for 30 years), Downey Panhellenic, Junior Women's Club, Children Home Society, and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Downey. She was known for putting in long hours of dedicated service. She also raised three children, working tirelessly with family, friends and groups until illness slowed her down three years ago. She is survived by her brothers, Kenneth Fullerton of La Ca�ada, Jack Fullerton of Ojai, Dick Fullerton of Newark, California; a brother-in-law, Norman Barnes and his wife, Frances of Downey; two sons, Glen Barnes and his wife, Marsha of Overland Park, Kansas, Dean Barnes and his wife, Marisue of Boulder City, Nevada; a daughter, Diane Hockinson and her husband, William of Corona del Mar; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were conducted by the Rev. John Toay.
