Sidney L. Barr mourned by family and neighbors
DOWNEY-Services for Sidney L. Barr, who coached for the Downey Junior Athletic Association and 
was known as Santa Claus in the Golden Park neighborhood, were held Wednesday, July 15, at the 
Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel. 
He was 72, born in Tennessee, and lived in Downey for 70 years. He died July 9 at his home. 
He worked for M & T Chemical for 41 years, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He served on 
the Board of Directors of the Cerritos College Bench Club, and was on the Board of Directors of the 
Pico Rivera Chamber of Commerce. 
In December he enjoyed greeting hundreds of children on the front porch of the family home for which 
he won a decoration sweepstakes award from the City. 
Survivors include his wife, Freida A. Barr; his sons, Michael and Jeffrey Barr; a daughter, Mary A. Barr; 
and a grandson, Matthew Bryant Barr. 
John Belle-Isle officiated. Burial followed at Inglewood Park Cemetery. 
Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
